Australian singer Dean Lewis has apologized, following allegations from several women that he caused them hurt or discomfort with the way he treated them.

"In the past few days, social media has made public a decade-plus of private conversations with a number of women, all of adult age," Lewis wrote on social media. "I don't fault these individuals for having hard feelings, and I don't want anyone defending me. I was breathtakingly dumb texting and flirting in the manner I have over many years. I should have been more sensitive that not everyone might look at our interactions the way I often did."

Lewis, who said that not all that's out there about him is accurate, emphasized that all the parties involved in the encounters he spoke of were consenting adults.

"The individuals leading the campaign against me have repeatedly acknowledged this, and I'm hurt by any suggestion that I've done things that have crossed into illegality," he wrote. "At the same time, I realise I've made an incredible mess, people are genuinely hurt, and I need to make changes."

Lewis, 38, explained that, "From the bottom of my heart, I want to sincerely apologise to those I've hurt," including not only the women who've come forward with accusations against him, but also those who hadn't, and for the fans and family members he'd left "gravely disappointed."

The changes he cited include "enrolling myself into intense therapy to make better choices and dramatically shift my approach to dating, relationships, and showing greater care to the women in my life." He also plans to have "a whole new set of rules so there's never confusion or questions about my intent when I'm engaging with fans or responding to messages in the future."

Lewis noted that fame had left him lonely, and he'd sought connection, but now he's voluntarily cutting himself off from others for a while.

"I know it's too much to ask for grace and forgiveness at this moment, but in time I hope to re-earn the trust of those I've hurt, and do better by those I've disappointed," Lewis wrote. "I'm going to look after myself for a little bit while I get my head and life in order."

Lewis has had songs featured on popular TV shows such as *Riverdale* (his 2016 debut single "Waves"), *Suits*, and *Grey's Anatomy*. He's released three albums and been nominated for multiple international awards.**
