We never want to hear these 10 songs again: Do you agree?

There’s a unique kind of heartbreak in a great song ruined by relentless overexposure. Think of classics like “Jumping Jack Flash” or “Who Are You”—once vibrant and exciting, now grating after countless radio spins.

10 Overplayed Songs

We bear some responsibility, of course. Radio stations respond to demand, and we, the listeners, created that demand. But at a certain point, blame becomes irrelevant. We just want the sonic assault to stop.

Here are 10 songs so overplayed, we’d rather risk a high-speed exit than endure another note.

1. ‘Hey Jude’ by the Beatles (1968)

If “Hey Jude” was just the “song” that stopped at the 3:09 mark, we probably would have fewer problems with it. Sadly, that obvious point at which they could have ended the song – literally on a high note – is immediately followed by a single chord progression and singalong non-lyrics that go on for four minutes, making the ending longer than the actual song. By the time they’re two minutes into the ending, you may wish for a two-minute coma to overtake you so you don’t have to hear the rest.

2. ‘Sweet Child o’ Mine’ by Guns N’ Roses (1987)

Guns N’ Roses achieved superstardom and chart success thanks to this ballad from their “Appetite for Destruction” album. It is impossible to overstate how often innocent ears were subjected to it daily during its heyday, and there was nowhere you could go to get away from it. It blasted from passing cars, and even people who didn’t like heavy metal or hard rock would play it if they got a few drinks in them. Luckily for this piece of music, much worse songs came along in the ensuing years, so it now seems brilliant in comparison.

3. ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’ by Journey (1981)

We know we bring up this song a lot, but we would be shirking our journalistic duties if we did not include Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” on our list of overplayed songs. The song was already overplayed when it came out over 40 years ago, and to people of a certain age, seeing it resurface with a vengeance in the 2000s was akin to witnessing a long-dead, hated relative claw its way out of a grave to terrorize townsfolk and feast upon their warm flesh.

4. ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis (1995)

Maybe we’re old-fashioned, but we’ve always believed that if a song becomes a big radio hit played ad infinitum, it would be nice if the singer could sing. Sadly, when “Wonderwall” came out and became a massive hit, it was sung by Liam Gallagher, the reason we’re glad they invented autotune. His off-key nasal voice makes you sick of the song a lot faster than you usually would if it were sung by someone tolerable.

5. ‘Proud Mary’ by Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969)

If you want to pick overplayed songs by Creedence Clearwater Revival, there is no shortage of choices, and we could make an entire 20-item list of overplayed songs just by them alone. For this list, we’re going with “Proud Mary,” a massive seller that charted internationally. These factors may have led radio programmers to believe that 54 years later, we still yearn to hear it several times daily. We don’t. Do yourself a favor and check out the vastly superior version recorded by the late Tina Turner instead.

6. ‘Don’t Stop’ by Fleetwood Mac (1977)

Just like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac has to its credit a seemingly bottomless supply of overplayed songs, making it a challenge to isolate just one for this list. We’re going with “Don’t Stop,” an inexcusably trite song full of “Me Decade” toxic positivity that suggests that tomorrow will miraculously be better than today, solely by virtue of it happening in the future. We will take the song’s advice and await a tomorrow in which we never have to hear this song again.

7. ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ by Nirvana (1991)

When the grunge genre hit, it was supposed to replace the outdated idealism of generations past and embrace a more world-weary view. In reality, it just became the next source of overplayed songs, none of which got more overplayed than this. Critics at the time said that the song expressed the feelings of the era’s teenagers, but when you look at the lyric sheet, it’s just a bunch of nonsensical rhyming words strung together haphazardly. Also, shouldn’t the band be #canceled for using a very un-PC description of a person of mixed race?

8. ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna (ft. Jay-Z) (2007)

It pains us to include Rihanna on this list because she’s a gifted singer who’s produced a lot of really enjoyable music. She even wows Super Bowl audiences while pregnant! Having said that, how many times do you need to hear the last two syllables of the word “umbrella” before you need the men in white coats to come after you with butterfly nets? That’s a rhetorical question, of course, but the song was ruinously overplayed, and over 15 years later, we’re still in recovery.

9. ‘Love Shack’ by the B-52s (1989)

If the mere mention of this song’s title fills you with mortal terror, congratulations. That means you’ve been alive at some point since 1989 and have personally been on hand to see this throwaway novelty song turn into an instrument of torture. The B-52s had been turning out unique and entertaining music for most of the 1980s, so it’s a shame that their worst song (yes, it’s their worst song) became what they’re best known for. Luckily, they never overplayed “Rock Lobster,” so we can still hang on to that and remember what once was.

10. ‘Let It Go’ by Idina Menzel (2014)

If you are unable or unwilling to bear children, you might have escaped the 2010s without hearing Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” on the regular. For the rest of us who had kids around the time the movie “Frozen” came out, this song was a permanent fixture in our daily lives, like humidity or termites. Children, it seems, like to hear the same song over and over again, and you’d better believe we heard this one all the time. At the same time, no one forced us to take our kids to see “Frozen” in the first place, so maybe this one is on us.

Audrey Hepburn’s Son Says He 'Can Understand Why' Marilyn Monroe Passed on Holly Golightly Role in “Breakfast at Tiffany's”

Sean Hepburn Ferrer recently revealed why he thinks Marilyn Monroe turned down the role of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's, which eventually went to his mom, Audrey Hepburn

  • Nevertheless, his mother's take on the character surprised audiences and became an enduring icon of style and film

  • Now, Lily Collins is set to bring Hepburn's legendary performance to the big screen in a new biopic

Audrey Hepburnremains closely associated withBreakfast at Tiffany's, but the film's lead role was first offered toMarilyn Monroe.

Now, Hepburn's oldest son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, 65, is offering insight into why he thinks Monroe ultimately turned it down.

Speaking toWoman's World, Ferrer said he understands the decision, pointing to how closely the character of Holly Golightly mirrored Monroe. Truman Capote, who wrote the original novella, had drawn inspiration from the blonde bombshell— something Ferrer believes may have made the role less appealing.

“I can understand why Marilyn said no, because she probably felt like she was going to be playing herself,” Ferrer told the outlet. “It's not very interesting, but if you take someone like Audrey Hepburn, which is the last thing you expect her to do, it's going to create something completely new. And I think it worked.”

Directed by Blake Edwards,Breakfast at Tiffany'swent on to become one of the defining films of the early 1960s, blending romance, humor and a stylized vision of New York City life. Hepburn's portrayal of Golightly helped shape the film's lasting appeal and continues to influence fashion and film decades later.

Hepburn, who died in 1993 at age 63, starred inBreakfast at Tiffany'salongside George Peppard, Patricia Neal and Mickey Rooney. She shared Ferrer with her first husband, Mel Ferrer, and later welcomed hersecond son, Luca Dotti, with Andrea Dotti.

Ferrer also reacted to thenewly announced biopicabout his mother, which isset to star actress Lily Collins.

“I have to be honest, I'm very excited, because I like Lily very much,” he toldWoman's World, adding that he has watched her seriesEmily in Paris“as much as I could have.”

On Feb. 23, 2026, Collins confirmed that she will portray Hepburn in a film written and produced by Alena Smith, based on Sam Wasson's nonfiction bookFifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's and the Dawn of the Modern Woman.

“It's with almost 10 years of development and a lifetime of admiration and adoration for Audrey that I'm finally able to share this,” Collins captioned herInstagram post. “Honored and ecstatic don't begin to express how I feel…”

Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most versatile Bollywood singers, dies at 92

NEW DELHI (AP) — Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most versatile Bollywood singers whose performances shaped the country’s musical memory and modern cinema, has died. She was 92.

Associated Press

The legendary singer across genres died Sunday of multiple organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, Pratit Samdani, a physician at the hospital said. Her son, Anand Bhosle, told reporters that her last rites will be performed on Monday.

Asha was admitted at the hospital on late Saturday with a chest infection and exhaustion, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle said in a social media post.

Asha’s timeless voice resonated across a film-obsessed India for nearly eight decades, recorded on about 12,000 songs. She boldly embraced cabaret and Western-influenced melodies to forge a distinct musical identity that stood uniquely apart from her sister,Lata Mangeshkar, herself a legendary voice revered as the “Melody Queen.”

Asha’s death was widely condoled.

“I am deeply saddened” by her passing, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a social media post.

“Her unique musical journey spanning decades has enriched our cultural heritage and touched the hearts of countless people around the world,” Modi said. “From soulful melodies to spirited compositions, her voice carried a timeless brilliance.”

Born on Sept. 8, 1933, Asha Bhosle was initiated into music by her father Dinanath Mangeshkar, who was also a trained singer. All her four siblings became accomplished singers and musicians.

Asha's first marriage, in 1949, ended in separation in 1960. Her second marriage was to iconic music composer R.D. Burman in 1980. She is survived by a son and grandchildren.

'Five Nights at Freddy's 2' (2025)

Five Nights at Freddy's 2kicks off in 2002, two years after the events of the original film. The children killed by William Afton (Matthew Lillard) possessed his animatronic creatures and took their revenge. Or at least that's what Mich Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) wants to believe. But he's smart enough to refuse the requests of his younger sister, Abby Schmidt (Piper Rubio), to rebuild the creatures so she can reunite with her friends.

Mike is also increasingly wary of Officer Vanessa Shelly (Elizabeth Lail), the daughter of Afton, who may not be as blameless for her father's rampage as he previously believed. With that relationship in peril, Toy Chica (Megan Fox) and the Marionette lure Abby to one of the original sites to restart the animatronics' rampage. And this time, there's no guarantee that the Schmidt family will be spared.

Not even physically beating himself up is enough to break the hold that this curse has on him.

'Piece by Piece' (2024)

Piece by Pieceis both a Lego movie and a music biopic forPharrell Williams, who voices himself in the film. It's an interesting way to present the largely true story of Williams' rise in the music industry as well as his occasional falls and stumbles. Even Williams' real-life wife,Helen Lasichanh, and his parents get in on the fun of voicing themselves.

But one of the biggest attractions of this film is its musical appearances byGwen Stefani,Snoop Dogg,Justin Timberlake,Missy Elliott,Jay-Zand several others, all of whom play themselves. Williams acknowledges that he owes his career and some positive outcomes to his friends in the music industry, but he'll have to chart his own path to be fully happy with himself and his destination.

McDonald’s CEO Blames His Mom’s Advice for His Viral Reaction to Trying the Big Arch Burger

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski blamed his mom’s parenting for his tiny bite and now-viral reaction to trying the fast food chain’s new Big Arch Burger

NEED TO KNOW

  • The CEO recalled finding out about his viral moment from his kids before receiving an influx of calls, emails and texts

  • “I’m definitely not a vegetarian,” he quipped while responding to a theory about his reaction to tasting the burger

The CEO of McDonald’s is blaming his mother for his viral reaction to trying the newBig Arch Burger.

In an interview withThe Wall Street Journalshared on Instagram on Monday, April 6,Chris Kempczinskirevealed why he took such a small and seemingly awkward bite while trying one of the fast food chain’s new menu items in anow-viral videothat he posted on Feb. 3.

“I’m definitely not a vegetarian,” the CEO quipped while responding to some of the theories surrounding his reaction to tasting the burger. “I blame it all on my mom because she told me, ‘Don’t talk with your mouth full.’ ”

“I think probably, in that case, I should have just said, ‘You know what? To hell with it, I’m gonna go talk with my mouth full.’ ”

As for why the CEO’s taste test went so viral? Many commenters claimed that Kempczinski’s reaction to tasting the burger — including saying “I love this product” — seemed to indicate that he was “acting” for the video while not actually enjoying the tiny bite he took of the burger.

“Not a single calorie was consumed in this video,” one user wrote in the comments, while another added, “Is the BIG BITE in the room with us??”

After the Feb. 3 video went viral, Kempczinski toldTheWall Street Journalthat he learned of his newfound social media fame when his kids called him and said, “Dad, you’ve gone viral — and not in a good way.”

“That’s when I knew, ‘Okay, something’s going on,’ ” he recalled. “And then I started getting texts and emails and calls. Invariably, they were all like ‘Hey, have you seen this?’ And it’s like, by the thousandth time, ‘Yeah, I’ve seen it.’ ”

Although the response to his promotional video wasn’t all positive, Kempczinski said he was happy that people were “talking about the Big Arch” nonetheless.

“I think when you go on to social media in general you have to have a thick skin,” he added.

Beyond reactions from both fans and critics, other fast food chains — includingBurger Kingand Wendy’s — were quick to take advantage of Kempczinski’s viral moment.

On March 2, Tom Curtis, the president of Burger King U.S. & Canada, got his own viral moment when he shared avideoof himself taking an enthusiastic bite of a Whopper.

“Thought we’d replay this,” the brand wrote in the caption.

Commenters were quick to make the connection between the two videos, writing, “Now compare this to the McDonald’s CEO.”
