Eric Dane's 35-year career in Hollywood has earned him many friends and admirers. And now, tributes are pouring infollowing his death at 53 years old.
The "Grey's Anatomy" star – who died Feb. 19, 10 months after he went public withhis ALS diagnosis– is being remembered as a "heroic" figure whoadvocated for ALSresearch and for patients' access to treatment.

In a statement shared with USA TODAY, "Euphoria" creator Sam Levinson said, "I'm heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric. Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift."
He continued, "Eric's family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing."

Maria Shriver vows to 'honor' Eric Dane's story with memoir
Maria Shriver, whose Penguin Random House imprint The Open Field is slated to publish Dane's memoir "Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments," remembered Dane as being a "heroic" advocate for ALS awareness.
"I'm heartbroken by this devastating news about Eric Dane. What a tragedy. He was so heroic the way he handled his diagnosis. He used his voice to let the world know what it was like living with ALS," she wrote in asocial media post.
"I was honored he chose my publishing imprint to publish his memoir. He told me he wanted his family to know how much he loved them, and he wanted to leave them a story they could be proud of. My love goes out to his family, and to all those battling this cruel disease, as well as all those caring for someone battling it."
She concluded: "Godspeed, Eric. It was an honor to know you, and we will honor your story. ♥️"

'Charmed' costar Alyssa Milano opens up about Dane's 'mischief' and 'tenderness'
Alyssa Milano, who performed alongside Dane in the latter seasons of "Charmed" and dated him in the early 2000s, reflected on their long-term friendship in anInstagram post.

"I can't stop seeing that spark in Eric's eye right before he'd say something that would either make you spit out your drink or rethink your entire perspective. He had a razor-sharp sense of humor. He loved the absurdity of things. He loved catching people off guard," she wrote in her caption.
"And when it came to his daughters and Rebecca, everything in him softened. He carried them with him even in rooms where they weren't present. You could see it in the way his voice changed when he said their names. A breathtakingly beautiful family," she added. "The spark. The mischief. The tenderness he kept guarded but never totally hidden."
She revealed that Dane had "convinced me to get my pixie cut and my nose piercing. He also was with me on the walk when we found Lucy, my beloved rescue chihuahua."
The actress ended her remembrance by writing, "He called me 'Milano,' as if it was the only part of my name that mattered. My heart is with the people who were lucky enough to be his home."

Grammy-nominated country songwriter Jim McBride, known for cowriting over a dozen Alan Jackson records, including "Chattahoochee," has died. He was 78.Jackson confirmed McBride's death in an Instagram tribute on Jan. 8.
"Jim and I wrote some of my favorite songs together and I don't know if my career would have ended up quite the same without his help," Jackson wrote, "inspiration, and encouragement in my early years. Thank you Jim, rest in peace." The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer is also credited with helping write Conway Twitty's "A Bridge That Just Won't Burn," among other songs.

"Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight."Dane was best known for playing the charismatic and flirtatious Dr. Mark Sloan – aka "McSteamy" – on "Grey's Anatomy" from 2006 to 2012. He continued working in Hollywood after he went public with his diagnosis,playing a firefighter with ALSon NBC's "Brilliant Minds," and reprised his role of Cal Jacobs on HBO's "Euphoria" inthe upcoming third season, due April 12, 2026.
Taking on a more somber tone, he added, "Miss you, buddy. Let's keep fighting the fight to solve ALS." The two starred in separate storylines in the 2010 romcom "Valentine's Day."
