Just because Bob Dylan is considered an icon doesn't mean the legendary singer-songwriter didn't have musical heroes of his own. He's often praised such influences as Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams, raving about his favorite artists just as any other fan might. In fact, the loss of one of those cherished musicians left him so devastated he couldn't speak to anyone for days.

It's no secret to longtime Dylan followers that he was completely enamored with Elvis Presley, and even spoke about hearing his music for the first time as a life-changing moment.

"When I first heard Elvis Presley's voice I just knew that I wasn't going to work for anybody and nobody was going to be my boss. Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail," Dylan once said, per Untold Dylan.

So it's no surprise that when Presley died in 1977 at the age of 42, Dylan felt the loss deeply.

"I had a breakdown. I broke down. One of the very few times," he said later, per Far Out magazine.

"I went over my whole life…my whole childhood. I didn't talk to anyone for a week after Elvis died," he continued. "If it wasn't for Elvis and Hank Williams, I couldn't be doing what I do today."

Dylan even called Presley's recording of his song "Tomorrow Is a Long Time" the "the one recording I treasure the most" in a 1969 interview with Rolling Stone. Presley also covered several other Dylan songs, including "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," "I Shall Be Released," and "Blowin' in the Wind."

Why Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley never met

Considering he was such a big fan, one might have expected Dylan to jump at the chance to meet the King of Rock and Roll, but that's not what happened at all.

"I never met Elvis because I didn't want to meet him," Dylan once said, according to American Songwriter. "Two or three times, we were up in Hollywood, and he had sent some of the Memphis Mafia down to where we were to bring us up to see Elvis, but none of us went."

"I don't know if I would have wanted to see Elvis like that," Dylan continued. "I wanted to see the powerful, mystical Elvis that had crash-landed from a burning star onto American soil. The Elvis that was bursting with life. That's the Elvis that inspired us to all the possibilities of life. And that Elvis was gone, had left the building."

Even if Presley's influence over Dylan had waned by then, his legacy remained strong with the folk icon...and still remains part of his work today.

Hollywood dads are welcoming kids later in life.

Some of the industry's biggest stars have become fathers in their 60s, 70s and even 80s – with Al Pacino welcoming the birth of his fourth child in 2023 at 83.

Others, including Robert De Niro and Kelsey Grammer, became fathers again in their 70s.

Here is a list of celebrity dads who welcomed children later in life.

Grammer is just one of many celebrities who became a dad at a later age.

"Al loves being a father and always has. He is excited," a source told People at the time. "Being a parent is and always was an important part of Al's life."

He welcomed Roman with his then-girlfriend Noor Alfallah, but confirmed to People in October 2024 that they had broken up and that he no longer lived with his son.

In addition to Roman, Pacino is also the father of Julie Marie, 36, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Jan Tarrant, and twins Anton and Olivia, 24, with ex Beverly D'Angelo.

De Niro and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen welcomed their daughter, Gia, in May 2023.

Robert De Niro revealed he had his seventh baby, a daughter named Gia, during an interview with ET Canada in May 2023. When the interviewer asked how his six children are, De Niro corrected them, saying "Seven, actually," adding, "I just had a baby."

It was later confirmed that Gia was born in April 2023. When speaking about becoming a father again at the premiere of his film, "About My Father," the actor told Extra, "I'm ok with it. I'm good with it."

"[When I] look at her, everything else goes away. So it's a great joy and relief to just be with her in the moment," he later shared with Rolling Stone. "[She is] half-Chinese. I want to try to teach her Chinese and show her nursery rhymes in English and Chinese."

In addition to Gia, whom he shares with girlfriend Tiffany Chen, De Niro is also a father to Drena, 54, and son Raphael, 48, who he shares with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, twins Julian and Airyn, 30, with his former girlfriend Toukie Smith, and son Elliot, 27, and daughter Helen Grace, 13, with his ex-wife, Grace Hightower.

Jagger welcomed his eighth child in December 2016 at the age of 73. It was his first with Melanie Hamrick.

Mick Jagger's eighth child, son Deveraux, was born in December 2016, when the musician was 73 years old. He shares Deveraux with his girlfriend, Melanie Hamrick.

When speaking with The Guardian in October 2023, Jagger joked that becoming a parent again is "not like riding a bike," adding "you get a bit out of practice." In addition to Deveraux, Jagger is also a father to Karis, 54, whom he shares with Marsha Hunt; Jade, 53, with ex-wife Bianca; Elizabeth, 41, James, 40, Georgia May, 33, and Gabriel, 27, with ex-wife Jerry Hall, and Lucas, 26, with Luciana Morad Gimenez.

"The more children you have, the more laissez-faire you get about them, to be honest," he told the outlet. "And it depends on the child – they have their own personalities and you can mould them to a certain extent, but you see their likes and dislikes and encourage them to do things they gravitate towards. It's fun to have children, at any age."

"But if you're working, and always away, you don't get to enjoy it quite as much," he added, before noting that when Deveraux was born, "I wasn't working so much, so I was able to spend more time. And then we had the lockdown – he's only six, and two of those years I did almost nothing [with the band]."

Katharine McPhee and David Foster welcomed their son Rennie in February 2021.

Grammy Award-winning musician, David Foster, welcomed his fourth child, and only son, Rennie, in February 2021, when he was 71 years old.

When speaking to People in January 2023, Foster opened up about having a son, and addressed criticism from the public about having a child while in his 70s.

"I think that I can offer one thing to Rennie even though I won't be around when he's 50 or 40 even, or 30 maybe," he said. "I think I can offer him wisdom from my 72 years on the planet. And maybe that's not a bad trade-off. I hope so."

Foster shares Rennie with his current wife, Katherine McPhee, and is also a father to Allison, 54, who was adopted at birth; Amy, 51, who he shares with ex-wife, B.J. Cook; and Sara, 43, Erin, 40, and Jordan, 37, who he shares with his second wife, Rebecca Dyer.

Grammer's fourth wife is Kayte Walsh. The two have three children together.

During an appearance on the "Pod Meets World" podcast, Kelsey Grammer shared that he and wife Kayte Walsh recently welcomed their fourth child together — a son named Christopher.

The couple also share Faith, 12, and sons Gabriel, 10, and James, 8. He is also a father to daughter Spencer, 41, with his first wife, Doreen Alderman; daughter Greer, 33, with ex Barrie Buckner; and daughter Mason, 23, and son Jude, 20, with ex Camille Grammer.

News of his new baby comes shortly after the "Frasier" star opened up about his recent realization that he may have "neglected" his older children, telling People in May: "I'm trying to make up for a little of it now. I'm still their dad, so you can always have [a] chance to show up."

"I probably should have been a little more clear and maybe less tolerant with the older ones," he said. "I'm pretty tolerant with the young ones, but I'm clear about how there's certain expectations and certain ways to navigate through a social situation: keep it close to the vest and play it straight, and you're going to be well-served in your life. I'm a little more specific with them about doing their studies and being prepared. [I tell them], 'What's your job in life? Showing up.'"

Richard Gere and wife Alejandra Silva have two young sons together.

Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, welcomed their second child together, James, in April 2020, when he was 70 years old. The two also share a 6-year-old son, Alexander.

The "Pretty Woman" actor is also a father to Homer, 25, with his second wife, Carey Lowell, and stepfather to Silva's son Albert from a previous marriage.

When speaking with People in July, Joel opened up about his desire to become a father, telling the outlet that being a father "means a lot" to him, adding, "I didn't have a dad, so it was very important for me to be a dad."

"I love all of my girls. And poetic justice, I had all girls, of course, but I'm really enjoying this a lot," he said. "It's something I was looking forward to all my life, and here I am."

Actor Steve Martin became a father for the first time when he was 67 years old, when his wife, writer Anne Stringfield, gave birth to their daughter, Mary, in December 2012.

The "Only Murders in the Building" star spoke with Vanity Fair in November 2016 about what it was like becoming a father later in life, telling the outlet, "it's fantastic."

"You have all the time in the world. You're all set and secure in life, and you're not building your career, so you have a lot of time," he said. "When I was younger, I was selfish and focused on my career… Now I'm just hanging around the house playing with [my daughter]. It's great."

Gavin Adcock took a tumble during his show in Canada.

The country singer was performing his song "Deep End" at a concert on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when he fell off of the stage at Winnipeg's Burton Cummings Theatre, fan-captured footage shared on TikTok shows.

The 27-year-old musician — who was rocking a pair of jeans, a cowboy hat and no shirt — was heading toward stage right, seemingly while carrying a bottle of liquor, just before he took a dive into the audience. The fall occurred as Adcock was climbing down off of the stage and into the crowd at the Winnipeg show.

The Georgia native lost his balance and fell forward into the crowd, where some audience members were awaiting him with their phones recording, and bumped into a piece of equipment in the process. In the fan-shared TikTok, a collective gasp from the crowd followed the incident.

Despite the fumble, however, Adcock recovered without missing a beat.

Just a couple of seconds after falling, the country artist — who lost his hat as a result of the tumble — resumed singing "Deep End," making his way across the barricade to interact with fans.

Adcock also took the fall in stride after the show, reacting to the moment in the comments of the fan's TikTok post, which was captioned, "@GavinAdcockMusic hope you're good after that fall, few too many 🍻."

"It happens 🤙🏻🤙🏻," Adcock wrote in a comment on the fan's video.

Prior to his nosedive at the Winnipeg show, Adcock made headlines not for his onstage performances, but his ongoing feud with fellow country musician Zach Bryan.

In September, the "Last One to Know" singer got into a fight with Bryan, 29, moments before he was set to perform at the Born & Raised Festival in Pryor on Sept. 13, according to footage of the altercation Adcock shared on Instagram.

"Hey, do you want to fight like a man? Come open the gate," Bryan said through a fence to Adcock, who then stepped closer to Bryan, the clip shows. The "Pink Skies" singer then pushed the fence toward Adcock. "When you get death threats from Sack Cryin before you headline in his hometown," Adcock wrote over the video and, in the caption, added, "Eat a Snickers, bro."

Bryan seemingly tried to hop over the fence in an attempt to get to Adcock, but was held back by security, according to another video of the altercation shared on Facebook. A bodyguard then escorted Adcock away, per the same clip.

Adcock also went viral for another music festival incident months earlier.

The singer seemingly called out Nickelback's sound guy in an expletive-laden rant during his July 26 set during Rock the Country, per a fan-captured TikTok.

He later claimed that the sound guy for the "Rockstar" performers — who co-headlined the Anderson, S.C., music festival — had attempted to get his father kicked out.

More than 50,000 people are expected to line up Sunday in New York City for the world's largest marathon. The vast majority aren't professional runners, instead balancing training with their day jobs — and it turns out, some of those day jobs are pretty high-profile.

Reality television personalities, actors, influencers and Broadway stars will line up for Sunday's race through New York City, part of a growing movement of famous faces taking on 26.2 miles.

When reality star Joey Graziadei sets out on Sunday, it won't just be his first marathon, but his first-ever official race.

"I'll be completely honest, I am nervous," Graziadei said.

In addition to leading a season of ABC's storied "Bachelor" franchise, Graziadei won Season 33 of "Dancing with the Stars." While it presented a different kind of physical challenge, he says the show helped pave the way for his marathon training.

"The biggest thing is the time commitment, just knowing that if you put enough energy and effort into something, you're going to see the results," he said. "I'll be the first to admit I wasn't the best dancer. I got good because of the fact that I put a lot of time and energy and committed fully to it."

He says he hopes the time he's spent running will similarly pay off.

Graziadei is among a growing group of celebrities for whom the marathon medal is something worth clearing time for in a jam-packed schedule that would normally have nothing to do with running.

Phil Keoghan, the longtime host of the adventure series "The Amazing Race," put off a marathon run for years because of his hectic filming schedule. He says a former contestant finally convinced him to take it on this year.

"Sometimes I think people live life too safely," Keoghan said. "They don't push themselves, test themselves to extremes, and certainly, running a marathon is a great way for anybody to test themselves."

The challenge of the marathon has always attracted celebrities, and interest in running has never been higher.

New York Road Runner's lottery for this year's TCS New York City Marathon received more than 200,000 applications, a 22% increase compared to 2024, according to the organization.

This year, celebrities entered in the New York City Marathon run the gamut from "Love Island's" Nic Vansteenberghe to Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service frontman Ben Gibbard, and "Dance Mom" star Chloe Lukasiak. They follow in the footsteps of arguably the most notable recent celebrity to take on 26.2 miles: singer-songwriter Harry Styles. Instead of dropping his long-awaited follow-up to 2022's "Harry's House" this fall, Styles dropped a sub-three hour time at the 2025 Berlin Marathon in September, reportedly running under the pseudonym Sted Sarandos and clocking a 2:59:13 finish.

The elusive sub-three hour finish is something Broadway star Jordan Litz is hoping to accomplish in New York on Sunday.

But his day won't end once he crosses the finish line. After he gets his medal and rehydrates, the actor plans to jump on his bicycle and head about 20 blocks south to the stage door of the Gershwin Theater. That's so he can be there in time for the 2 p.m. performance of "Wicked," where he stars as Fiyero. Then, he'll do the whole show over again at 7 p.m.

"I wanted to do it while I was still at 'Wicked' and still part of the Broadway community, and in the heart of New York City," Litz said of his stacked Sunday schedule. "Because for the most part, I show up at the Gershwin, I do my job and I take off, but over the course of this year, doing all of these extra races in preparation and running all over the city, I've run over every inch of this borough, of these five boroughs."

In Litz's case, doing his job involves eight performances a week of one of the most physically demanding shows on Broadway. Now add to that an extensive training block for New York, notoriously one of the most grueling marathons for professional and amateur runners alike.

So what made the siren song of the marathon too much to resist?

"Well, first off, I'm crazy," Litz said. "I've always been that kind of person, even when you asked my college teammates when I was a swimmer, I just loved to grind, and I loved to beat up my body and push it to the limits. So a marathon seemed like the logical next step for that kind of thing."

There's been some ways in which the physical demands of Litz's day job have eased his training block needs — after starting with five run days and two lift days a week, he cut back on the running based on some creative mathematics: eight shows a week added up to roughly a six or seven mile run, meaning he could scale back one of his shorter runs and free up a few valuable hours.

Litz did joke that marathon training "has been detrimental" to his onstage capacity.

"It has not helped. Most days I come in and my legs are jelly," he said with a laugh. "But I've done the show in every condition possible, with my knee hurting, my ankle hurting, my voice hurting… It has made the show not scary, in that, oh my gosh, I just ran 22 miles. All I have to do now is play Fiyero on Broadway. That seems so easy compared to what I just did. So from a mental standpoint, I feel like I can conquer the world because of all this training."

And it's not just performers. People busy in other worlds — including high-profile athletes — are getting pulled in by the allure of a marathon medal.

Ali Truwit won two Paralympic swimming medals in Paris last summer. The competitive collegiate swimmer enjoyed running before she lost part of her left leg after a shark attack. She says her journey back to marathon running has been transformative.

"I am really proud," Truwit said. "Every kind of long training run has been a new achievement for me that I never thought I could do on a prosthetic blade."

Tayshia Adams, another member of Bachelor Nation, will have experience on her side when she lines up for her third New York City Marathon on Sunday. In the lead-up to her first two marathons, she fit in training runs in Kenya and Paris while traveling for work. This time she'd planned to commit her schedule to running and avoid any travel. However, in August, she started filming a new show that required her to move to Los Angeles for six weeks.

"I just realized that there's no perfect plan," Adams said. "So I tried to fit in my training along with filming and traveling."

Scaling back miles and taking advantage of Santa Monica and Newport Beach as replacement running backdrops for Central Park has Adams not only ready for Sunday but planning a fourth marathon in 2026.

"Every year I have my doubts," Adams said. "Every year I feel like I can't do it. Every year [I think] my schedule is way too busy… But if you show up for yourself and you just meet yourself out there and just keep trying, keep moving, the people will carry you through the entire thing."

Bill Belichick, North Carolina beat Syracuse to earn first ACC win

For Halloween this year, Bill Belichick got a different kind of treat.

In the middle of his taxing and occasionally disastrous first season at North Carolina, Belichick and his Tar Heels were able to pick up their first win in ACC play this season, going on the road to knock off Syracuse 27-10 on Friday, Oct. 31 at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for North Carolina, which improved its record to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the ACC.

1 / 32Who are the highest paid college football coaches? Check out the top 32.In USA TODAY Sports' review of compensation for Division I football head coaches, we found 32 are earning $7,000,000 or more this season. Georgia's' Kirby Smart is No. 1 at $13,282,580 million.

Belichick's maiden voyage in college football hasn't gone quite how his employer expected when it hired the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach last December.

The Tar Heels lost their first three games against Power Four opponents by a combined score of 120-33 and were more notable for what they were doing off the field than on it, whether it was the scrapping of a planned series about the program on Hulu or reports of general manager Michael Lombardi taking a fundraising trip to Saudi Arabia.

In recent weeks, though, a North Carolina team that had become a punchline has looked markedly improved. The Tar Heels came agonizingly close to wins against Cal and Virginia this month, losing by a combined four points. Against the Cavaliers last Saturday, North Carolina came up inches short of what would have been a game-winning two-point conversion in overtime against a top-20 opponent.

On Friday, that progress finally resulted in a win.

The Tar Heels' defense continued to impress, holding Syracuse to just 147 total yards and 2.9 yards per play. Over its past three games, North Carolina is allowing only 15.7 points per game.

What has been an impotent offense for much of the season showed a spark against the Orange, putting up 425 yards and 27 points, both of which were season highs against an FBS opponent. Freshman running back Demon June carried much of the load, racking up 182 total yards and two touchdowns, including a 72-yard touchdown reception off a screen pass from quarterback Gio Lopez.

A Syracuse team that beat Clemson by two touchdowns on the road back in September has struggled since losing quarterback Steve Angeli to a season-ending injury. The Orange have lost five games in a row while averaging only 12 points per contest.

The victory wasn't just a morale boost for Belichick and his squad.

With four regular-season games remaining, the Tar Heels are still in contention for the postseason, needing to go 3-1 the rest of the way to get to bowl eligibility. It's not totally out of the realm of possibility. They have two games remaining against teams that don't have winning records, 3-5 Stanford and 4-4 NC State, though they'd also need at least one win against 5-2 Wake Forest or 4-3 Duke.

If nothing else, their coach is bullish about what awaits.

"Let's get used to it. We're gonna win a lot more games around here, OK," Belichick said to his players in the locker room after the game. "But you can see the potential we have. We just gotta keep working, keep grinding, fix a few little things here and there, and things are gonna be a lot different going forward."
